Turmeric is one of my favorite spices in the kitchen. It is incredibly versatile in the kitchen. It has a rich history as a medicinal food all over the globe, especially Indian sub-continent. Most commonly, turmeric is available in the powered form. However, rarely, it is also sold in whole root form in some farmers markets.
Ingredients:
All of the benefits from turmeric tea come from the active compound called "circumin". Studies have shown that circumin has several benefits like:
- Boosting Immune System
- Weight Loss
- Digestive discomfort
- Managing Diabetes
- Preventing Cancer
- Preventing gall stones and liver damage.
Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- pinch of black pepper
- half slice lemon
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
- Boil four cups of water.
- When the water starts to boil, add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder.
- Now, reduce the flame to simmer for 8 to 10 minutes (It is very important to simmer the turmeric powder to extract circumin from it) .
- Strain the tea through a strainer into the cup.
- Add a pinch of black pepper. Black pepper has been proven to increase the absorption of circumin in the body.
- Squeeze few drops of lemon. When taken empty stomach, lemon neutralists the pH of body and promotes detoxification.
- You may add honey to taste.
